It is very busy these days. Besides everyday life, which certainly does keep on with its everydailyness (ah, I’ve made a word I think) we have had visitors from Hungary who arrived from Hong Kong to do family genealogy and see my albums of old family photos, some from the 1800s, and more visitors from Atlanta – my sister in law Ronna who is moving back here within the next year, with my brother, from Atlanta.
But though these events gave us all a lot of happiness, the most joyful feeling came from things connected to Advent and Christmas. My grandsons saw Santa at a lunch at Spice Restaurant, a delicious place owned by friends of my daughter.
WordPress has a new quite challenging (for me) method for putting images into the post and I can’t find a way to put them to one side or the other. I wish they would give us a choice of whether or not to use the new method. I had no problem with the old one…………(Perhaps that is not quite true. I had perhaps fewer problems and more ideas of how to fix them.)
Last Saturday Alice and her family went to Galehouse Farms to cut down their tree which they took home and decorated. Last Sunday we had Advent carol singing at her house – it was going to be at mine, but Andy was getting ready to leave for the Johnson Space Center very early on Monday and thought it would be too much….We had a lovely time at Alice’s…….
Ok! I figured out how to put this image on the left side. Sorry to bore you all with this….I’m such a Luddite wannabe.
This is tree hunting at Galehouse and Alice’s tree up later in the day…
The manger scene was a gift from me their first Christmas in this new house…….They’ve been there for more than ten years now, I think.
Alice always puts up the German Music box which was my mother’s. When she first got it, it wasn’t working, but she’s such a good engineer, very hands on, and fixed it so it plays again. This is an Erzgebirge music box, and Alice found another one at a garage sale for nearly no money. They’re very magic somehow…….Like all of this Christmas season.
Well, I thought I had gotten these pictures to be where I wanted them, which is obviously not the case. And I’ve no idea how to fix it now. My apologies to you all…..
(Guess all the blogging sites like to change it up on us. You’ve shown remarkable restraint and haven’t even called WordPress any naughty names. It’ll come. It’s just that when we’re putting up a post is not when we wish to be learning things. My suggestion is to do a “make-believe” one…post date it so it doesn’t head down the ramp on you and play when you have the chance. At least, that is how I learn.)
Oh I wish that Alice were closer because I’m quite certain that she could get my clock working again. I’m so wishing to hear it chime out the hours. Oh. It dawns on me that is why it has not been fixed. Hmmm… Beautiful music boxes.
How fun to have guests come to discuss history and genealogy and family. It is always good when more than one person in the family enjoys that subject.
The boys look so happy to see Santa. Not a cry or a wail. Excellent. The tree is a beauty!
You are right about it being busy times – but only as busy as we allow it to be 🙂
What with my new job only just started (2nd week!) and several invitations to Christmas dinners, one of which I can not attend for colliding with other appointments, I am a tad more busy than usual myself. But I enjoy this time of the year very much; it is when Christmas and New Year are over that I dread the long, dragging-on part of winter most.
Love the Erzgebirge things! My grandparents had an entire angel orchestra, we loved to see it being put up every year when we were little. Now, it resides with my sister, but I don’t think she’s taken them out of their box this year. Sadly, she is not at all into Christmas. Maybe I should ask her to lend the orchestra to me this year. It’d well be worth its own blog post!
Dear Meike, I would so love to see your Erzgebirge orchestra!
It’s all beautiful!
Oh, yes… I’m still annoyed with Blogger for taking away the ability to link directly to Amazon with a click of the mouse. Now to embed a direct link (that is like going through an Amazon widget), one has to go into HTML and I don’t want to TOUCH the HTML!
But in the end, all is well if that is our biggest concern this Holiday season. (((HUGS)))
No need to apologize. They look great. And such a wonderful time you are having.
And to Librarian, maybe your sister should just give it to you since you are the one who loves it and will display it!
I love that photo with it looking cold and rainy outside and the warm lights on the Christmas tree on the inside.
That impresses me that your Mom fixed that music box, that would make it extra special to me!
Hope you have some quiet times in this busy season, time to reflect on the wonder and the joy of it all. Happy Christmas to you!
I wish you a Christmas time with all you desire! I wanted to say that it was my daughter Alice who fixed the music box. I see my pronouns were not that clear in the post. sorry!
