The flowers above are the Yellow Rose of Texas, Harrison’s yellow. This was a favorite of Paul’s who loved the song and had memories of Texas from his year as a student at the Technical University in Monterrey, Mexico. Long ago and far away, indeed……
May is the loveliest month for flowers in the Western Reserve ! I have had so many blooming, the tough ones that can survive and even thrive with the limited care I give them…..Peonies are really tough even though their wonderful blooming time seems to coincide with some really heavy intense rain which flattens them…This always happens and May of 2015 was no exception….I have them in many places and they are better and better every year and after their time of flowering they have a great weed suppressing foliage.
Nathan marched with his cub scout troop in the Memorial Day parade in Richfield, the village just north of us, but in our school district, where the troop is located. Alice is always happy to tell me what a great group of men and boys it is and how well they all work together…Nathan is second from left, holding the banner.
Stephen really enjoyed his Sunday breakfast today, proclaiming himself to be “the Nutella Boy”!
Emily and her family are really busy getting ready for a month in Europe……They will spend time with Ingmar’s parents south of Munich and then with his sister Nali and her family and also visit Emily’s Uncle Joshi in Ravensburg and her cousin Christof and his family in Heidenheim. And then off to Hungary with a week in Budapest. And other adventures along the way. They will not return until July 7th and I will miss them a lot, and they will miss the 4th of July parade in Mayville, NY which they go to every year. Mayville is the county seat of Chautauqua County, NY and their parade is grand and yet has a delightful small town feeling to it……..Part of the parade is always from nearly every fire department in the county.
I’ll be very happy when I can see them again…..Meanwhile, I’m getting excited about my friends Susan Daly and Norman Rogers from Toronto who are coming to the cottage the week of the 8th of June…..
